Conveniently located an hour’s drive from Dublin and Waterford, our Outreach Centre in Carlow brings UPMC’s high-quality, expert care closer to home, eliminating the need to travel for advanced care.
At UPMC, our patients are at the centre of everything we do. Our team of highly-trained and experienced consultants are skilled in the latest diagnostic and treatment techniques. They evaluate each patient as an individual, developing care plans that match their specific needs.
A GP referral is required for most visits. UPMC accepts referrals via the Healthlink platform or via email in PDF format.
Health Screening Programme
UPMC now offers health screenings for common conditions and early detection of underlying health issues. We perform a broad range of diagnostic assessments and tests to create a customised, comprehensive overview for each patient.
Patients may self-refer.
Screenings and Tests
- Blood tests
- Fasting glucose and haemoglobin A1c
- Lipid profile, including cholesterol and triglycerides
- Urea, creatinine, and eGFR
- Fasting cholesterol profile
- Renal, liver, and bone profiles
- Thyroid function tests
- Full blood count
- Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) for men over 40
- Resting ECG
Our urologists use innovative treatments and minimally-invasive techniques to address diseases of the male and female urinary tract and conditions of the male reproduction system. Conditions include but are not limited to:
- Kidney stones
- Urologic cancers
- Urinary tract infections
Our women’s health clinic supports well-woman care, in addition to diagnosing and treating gynaecological conditions. The gynaecology service is led by consultant gynaecologists with more than 35 years of experience combined.
The UPMC Outreach Centre is equipped to perform diagnostic and minor procedures including, but not limited to:
- Coil insertion
- Insertion of intrauterine device (IUD)
To complement our gynaecology service, we also offer specialised gynaecologic physiotherapy services. Our specially-trained and highly-skilled physiotherapist is available to support patients diagnosed with chronic gynaecologic conditions or those who are recovering from gynecologic and urologic surgery.
Our radiation oncologist is available to consult patients, reviewing their diagnosis and recommending the most appropriate radiotherapy course. Radiotherapy treatments will be administered at UPMC Hillman Cancer Centre at UPMC Whitfield Hospital in Waterford or UPMC Hillman Cancer Centre in Cork, located on the Bon Secours Campus, Western Road entrance.

Our Outreach Centre at Shamrock Plaza in Carlow is centrally located between Dublin and Waterford. At the intersection of the N9 and Tullow Street, we are conveniently connected to all areas of the county. A car park at Shamrock Plaza is available for a rate of €1.00 per hour.
