Biography
Mr. Carton is the Director of Orthopaedic Sports Medicine for UPMC in Ireland and a full time orthopaedic consultant at UPMC Whitfield Hospital, specialising in hip and knee work.
He graduated with a Doctorate (MD) from Queens University, Belfast.
He trained in the speciality of trauma and orthopaedic surgery between the years 1997 and 2005.
His initial appointment was as a consultant in the Southern Health Trust in Northern Ireland, before his promotion to Clinical Director of the Trauma and Orthopaedic department. He held this post until his move to the Whitfield Clinic in September 2008.
He worked as a member of an international teaching faculty that trained surgeons in the technique of hip resurfacing between 2004 and 2007. His most recent work outside of UPMC Whitfield Hospital was as a member of a UK faculty, teaching surgeons “keyhole” techniques for hip surgery.
He is one of the leading surgeons in hip arthroscopy and is an active member of the International Society for Hip Arthroscopy.
