UPMC Supporting the 2021 Great Pink Run

The Great Pink Run will retain its virtual approach this year. UPMC Aut Even Hospital, continuing its support of the last number of years, was delighted to launch the event in Kilkenny recently, alongside some well-known Kilkenny personalities such as Bobby Kerr and Jackie Tyrrell.

The Run, which raises money for breast cancer research, has generated millions of euros through it’s annual event which sees its pink tribe of running, jogging, cycling and walking heroes support Breast Cancer Ireland in its efforts to raise funds to invest in vital breast cancer research. Participation in the Great Pink Run event is easy. People can register to take part at greatpinkrun.ie and track their kilometres during the weekend of October 16 and 17 on their smartphone or phone app.

Since the 2011, more than 60,000 people have taken part in the Great Pink Run and over €3.5 million has been raised to support pioneering research across Ireland, which is ultimately aimed at developing new and more effective targeted therapies for patients diagnosed with breast cancer.

Held in association with Glanbia, and supported by UPMC Aut Even Hospital, the event will be held on October 16 and 17. People within the local Kilkenny community and beyond, are encouraged to turn the globe pink, and cover the circumference of the globe (40,700km) over the course of the event weekend.

In the weeks leading up to the event, other personalities will be joining the Breast Cancer Ireland in their fundraising efforts. Virgin Media broadcaster and Breast Cancer Ireland Ambassador Elaine Crowley, social influencer James Patrice, international rugby player Josh van der Flier, and TV presenter Nadine Reid will join the many thousands who have been impacted by the disease in Ireland.

With registrations now open, Aisling Hurley, CEO of Breast Cancer Ireland, is urging people to register early to ensure that participation packs and the much sought-after pink t-shirts arrive in plenty of time.  “In this, the 10th anniversary of the establishment of Breast Cancer Ireland as a charity, we’re excited to see the Great Pink Run go from strength to strength, growing into a truly global event,” she said.
