Our clinic at WIT Arena provides patients in Ireland with access to internationally renowned sports-related and exercise-related injury treatment and rehabilitation.
The new facility includes a state-of-the-art rehabilitation gym which, allows for quantitative assessments of strength and performance in pursuit of optimal recovery.

Mr. Patrick Carton
Mr. Patrick Carton, MD, FRCS (Tr and Orth), FFSEM, is a full-time consultant orthopaedic surgeon specialising in sports-related hip, groin, and knee injuries and reconstructive hip surgery. As the director of orthopaedic sports medicine for UPMC in Ireland, Mr. Carton oversees the development and expansion of UPMC’s world-renowned services into the South East and across Ireland.
He is an active faculty member of the International Society of Hip Arthroscopy, a fellow of the Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine, Royal College of Surgeon Ireland and an honorary fellow of the World Society of Sports and Exercise Medicine. He also serves as an honorary research associate at the Department of Health, Sports and Exercise at Waterford Institute of Technology.
Dr. Dualtach Mac Colgáin
Dr. Dualtach Mac Colgáin BSc, MSc (Sports Med), MBChB, MISCP, MICGP, MFSEM, focuses on the assessment and management of musculoskeletal injuries and pitchside care of athletes. Dr. Mac Colgáin is the team doctor for the Meath senior football team and Dundalk FC teams.
Patients can self-refer by phone or email, but should healthcare professionals wish to refer a patient, they may do so through HealthLink or email.
Virtual consultations are also available through UPMC Virtual Care, depending on condition and stage of treatment.

Researchers, supported by UPMC, are launching a new menopause lifestyle programme to bridge the gap in women’s health supports.
Research led by the SHE Research Group, TUS, reveals that Irish women feel inadequately supported through the menopause and the majority would welcome a lifestyle programme to assist them with their symptoms.
The initiative, funded by UPMC Institute for Health, will see researchers in TUS, WIT and Waterford Local Sports Partnership come together to address this through the development and evaluation of a novel menopause lifestyle programme.
Wexford GAA have announced that UPMC Sports Medicine is to become their Official Healthcare Partner. The partnership agreement means that UPMC, which offers trusted, high-quality health services at UPMC Whitfield Hospital and the UPMC Sports Medicine Clinic in Waterford, UPMC Aut Even Hospital in Kilkenny and other facilities across Ireland, will work with Wexford GAA to offer inter-county players top-class care and attention in sports injury and preventative care.
