Patients and Visitors - UPMC Aut Even

Patients and Visitors

GENERAL INFORMATION

Most patient rooms are private and feature telephones and flat screen televisions.

The first 30 minutes of any visit is free. Visits that extend beyond 30 minutes will be on a paid parking system.

We operate a coffee dock daily that features homemade hot and cold meals and snacks for patients and visitors.

Due to COVID-19, the restaurant is currently offering a take-away only service.

UPMC Aut Even Hospital, in common with all public buildings in Ireland, operates a strict no smoking policy within the building. Designated smoking areas are provided within the hospital grounds.

UPMC Aut Even Hospital visiting hours are from 11 a.m. – 9:15 p.m. We ask visitors to consider visiting patients outside of meal times. Patient care is our priority and at times it will be necessary to ask visitors to leave while a procedure is being carried out or to limit the number of visitors present.

For infection control reasons, we ask visitors who have experienced an episode of sickness or diarrhoea in the previous two days to refrain from visiting relatives or friends in hospital.

INPATIENT STAYS

Please report to main reception to check in and be sure to bring:

  • Photo identification (i.e. a current passport or driver’s license)
  • Any relevant scans or x-rays

Your consultant will tell you if it is necessary to stop eating or drinking prior to your admission. If you are unsure about fasting please check with your consultant and/or consultant secretary. It is important that you follow your fasting guidelines prior to your admission.

Please bring all prescribed medications and a copy of your current prescriptions with you. This may be obtained from your GP or from your pharmacy.

If you are taking any high-tech medicines, please bring enough for the duration of your stay in hospital.

If you are taking anti-coagulant therapy, including diabetic medications, or oral contraceptive pill, please contact your consultant or consultant’s secretary prior to your admission, as you may need to discontinue this medication before your procedure.

All inpatients of the hospital should bring night-wear, a dressing gown, slippers, and toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, comb, towel, etc.) with them. We advise patients to leave valuables such as jewelry and money at home, as we cannot accept responsibility for lost items.

We advise that you organise transport to and from the hospital if you are having sedation or will be under a general anaesthetic during your procedure.

Have a Flu or Other Infectious Respiratory Disease?

If you are scheduled for a procedure and are suffering from flu-like symptoms, please contact your consultant. Patients presenting to the hospital with flu like symptoms will be asked to wear a mask until their infectious status can be confirmed.

Special Provisions Regarding MRSA/Norovirus

It is the policy of UPMC Aut Even Hospital to assess all patients’ MRSA status.

PAYMENT

Patients without private health insurance cover can self pay and receive treatment at UPMC Aut Even Hospital. This option allows patients without private cover to access the exceptional quality of care across a range surgical procedures. For questions about self-pay pricing, please contact our patient accounts department on 056-7775194.

All self-pay hospital procedure prices include the hospital technical fee and all professional fees for hospital admission. Theatre costs for the procedure(s), nursing care, accommodation, routinely used drugs, dressings, and consumables required during the inpatient stay, along with patient meals and beverages, are included in the price.

If you are due to attend UPMC Aut Even Hospital for a procedure and have questions relating to your private health insurance cover, please call your consultant’s secretary directly or our patient accounts department. Every insurance policy is different and the coverage included may change, therefore it is critical that each patient check their exact level of cover prior to admission.

We are always happy to help patients understand what, if any, cost they may incur for their procedures at the hospital. We want to make the entire process of hospital insurance cover as simple as possible. To do this, we advise a few simple steps:

  • Check the name and type of your plan
  • Check your policy number
  • Confirm the procedure name and code with your consultant’s secretary
  • Contact your insurance provider to ensure there are no exclusions under the terms and conditions of your policy
  • Call our patient accounts department on 056-7775194 with the above details

Our patient accounts team will provide you with any advice or information required and talk you through the details of your insurance cover. The patient accounts department can be contacted on 056-7775194.

UPMC Aut Even Hospital is not responsible for costs incurred if policies do not qualify at the time of admission. It is the patient’s responsibility to understand their level of insurance cover, particularly as there are many variations of plans, many of which have an ‘excess’ included by the insurer.

All hospital accounts must be settled on admission.
