Senior Pharmacy Technician

To assist in the provision of a comprehensive pharmaceutical service to the hospital meeting the pharmaceutical care needs of patients and staff under the direction of the Director of Pharmacy.


  • Supports pharmacy services by stocking, assembling, and distributing medications.
  • Maintains pharmacy inventory by checking pharmacy stock to determine inventory level, anticipating needed medications and supplies, placing and expediting orders, verifying receipt, and removing outdated drugs.
  • Maintains a safe and clean pharmacy by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.
  • To carry out the pre-packaging of bulk preparations.
  • To carry out top-up medication distribution systems to wards and departments.
  • To ensure the receipt, checking and storage of goods received.
  • To sort and return medications for recycling or disposal.
  • To be responsible for stock control including ward stocks.
  • To ensure the maintenance of standards of clinical hygiene within the pharmacy department and the wider hospital campus, in accordance with infection control policies.
  • To be involved in checking processes in accordance with departmental protocols and procedures
  • To assist in the training and induction of new staff in accordance with departmental norms and procedures.
  • To liaise with management and staff in matters of departmental procedure or as when problems arise

Education Requirements

  • Hold a Pharmaceutical Technician Diploma awarded by an Institute of Technology or a recognised equivalent qualification is essential.
  • Hold a Pharmaceutical Technician Diploma awarded by an Institute of Technology or a recognised equivalent qualification is essential.
  • Previous experience in hospital pharmacy is desirable.
