UPMC now offers health screenings for common conditions and early detection of underlying health issues. Using the latest technology and guidelines, we perform a broad range of diagnostic assessments and tests to create a comprehensive overview for each patient. Services

In addition to standard measurements for blood pressure, height, weight, BMI, and waist circumference, we will also perform the following:

  • Blood tests
    • Fasting glucose and haemoglobin A1c
    • Lipid profile, including cholesterol and triglycerides
    • Urea, creatinine, and eGFR
    • Fasting cholesterol profile
    • Renal, liver, and bone profiles
    • Thyroid function tests
    • Full blood count
    • Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) for men over 40
  • Spirometry
  • Resting ECG

If clinically indicated by your consultant, additional tests can be performed. Pricing is available upon request.

About Our Expert

Dr. Shahid Zia
UPMC in Ireland Physician

Dr. Shahid Zia, MBBS, MRCPI, FRCP, is a consultant in respiratory and internal medicine. He performs health screenings for common conditions and early detection of underlying health issues.

Graduating in 1987,  he achieved MRCPI in 2003 from the Royal College of Physicians Ireland, and was added to the specialist registrar for respiratory and internal medicine in Ireland in 2009. Mr. Zia completed his training in respiratory and internal medicine in Dublin and Galway and was awarded a fellowship by the Royal College of Physicians Ireland in 2013. Dr. Zia has worked as a consultant in Ireland and the Middle East for 10 years. He is based at UPMC Whitfield Hospital, UPMC Kildare Hospital, and the UPMC Outreach Centre.

Dr. Zia accepts eReferrals through Healthlink from GPs (‘General Medicine’ under UPMC Whitfield Hospital or UPMC Kildare Hospital).

Located in Waterford, our inpatient facility is a short drive from Kilkenny and Wexford. It features a state-of-the-art cath lab and one of the most advanced CT scanners in the South East. Consultant suites are available for outpatient procedures and appointments. UPMC Whitfield Hospital also houses an inpatient oncology unit and is home to UPMC Hillman Cancer Centre.

Our Outreach Centre at Shamrock Plaza in Carlow is centrally located between Dublin and the South East. It brings the outstanding, personalised care for which our hospitals are known closer to residents of nearby communities, eliminating the need to travel far for expert care.
