ABOUT THE PRESENTERS
Mr. Patrick Carton, MD, FRCS (Orth), FFSEM, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, Director of Orthopaedic Sports Medicine, UPMC in Ireland
Mr. Patrick Carton is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon, specialising in sports-related hip, groin, and knee injuries and reconstructive surgery of the hip joint. He is an internationally renowned specialist in preservation hip surgery and to date, has performed more than 3,000 ‘keyhole’ hip arthroscopy procedures for the treatment of labral tears and femoroacetabular impingement. He is an active member of the International Society of Hip Arthroscopy, a fellow of the Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine, Royal College of Surgeon Ireland and an honorary fellow of the World Society of Sports and Exercise Medicine. He also serves as an honorary research associate at the Department of Health, Sports, and Exercise at Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT).
Mr. Fiachra Rowan, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, UPMC Whitfield Hospital
Mr. Fiachra Rowan is an orthopaedic trauma surgeon and specialist in hip and knee surgery. He currently holds clinics at University Hospital Waterford and UPMC Whitfield Hospital and has a special interest in hip and knee pathologies from adolescence through old age. He is skilled in assessing and treating a wide range of orthopaedic conditions and sports medicine injuries. Mr. Rowan graduated from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) with honours. He trained at various hospitals in Ireland and in London, and worked at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, where he received the clinical excellence award. He holds a doctorate of medicine from University College Dublin, is a Fellow of Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery and a Fellow of the Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine at the RCSI. He is an editorial review board member for the Bone and Joint Journal and has presented worldwide.
Mr. Tadhg O’Sullivan Director of Orthopaedics, UPMC Whitfield Hospital
Mr. O’Sullivan qualified (MB, BAO, Bch) from University College Cork in 1978 and M.ch (Orth) from Liverpool University in 1990.He was awarded FRCS (Orth) from Edinburgh in 1991, and received FFSEM Honorary Fellowship RCSI in 2006. Mr O’Sullivan was also a Faculty Member: Technique in Arthroscopic Knee Surgery, RCSI, 1996-2010. Mr. O’ Sullivan was a consultant orthopaedic surgeon with the HSE from 1993 to 2007. He has been clinical director and consultant orthopaedic surgeon with UPMC Whitfield Hospital since 2007. His special interests within sports surgery are arthroscopic ACL reconstruction, arthroscopic meniscal surgery, arthroscopic realignment, and stabilisation of paetellofemoral joint.

Shane has worked at UPMC Whitfield for 8 years. A Chartered Physiotherapist with a special interest in Orthopaedic conditions, biomechanics and sports injuries, Shane has a special interest in rehabilitation post-surgery and has worked with a number of high performing athletes in their return to sport rehabilitation.
